Port St. Lucie, FL — St. Lucie West Services District (SLWSD) was awarded the 2025 Florida Association of Special Districts (FASD) Safety Award on Jun. 19, 2025, during the 2025 FASD Annual Conference. This recognition celebrates the district’s unwavering commitment to fostering a safe and proactive environment for both its residents and employees.
FASD’s mission is to unify and strengthen special purpose government through education, the exchange of ideas, and active involvement in the legislative process.
Nominated out of 1200 other districts by the Florida Insurance Alliance (FIA), SLWSD was recognized for its comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to workplace safety. Throughout its partnership with FIA, the district has consistently embraced recommendations from routine site visits and detailed Mock OSHA assessments conducted by FIA’s Risk Services team. SLWSD’s proactive safety measures aim to meet and exceed the highest standards in risk management.
At the heart of SLWSD’s safety achievements is its empowered workforce. Employees actively participate in safety meetings, identify potential hazards, and provide practical solutions to prevent incidents. District leadership reinforces these efforts by implementing employee-driven suggestions, creating a collaborative safety culture rooted in shared responsibility and continuous improvement.
SLWSD also demonstrates a strong obligation to employee development through ongoing training, safety committee engagement, and the integration of targeted safety resources such as visual reminders and educational presentations.
“This award reflects our ongoing commitment to the residents of St. Lucie West,” said SLWSD Assistant District Manager Gerad Rouse. “Our community benefits when safety is a core focus of everything we do.”
“We’re honored to receive this recognition, which represents the dedication and teamwork of our entire staff,” said SLWSD District Manager Joshua Miller. “Our employees take pride in protecting one another, and we believe a strong safety culture is essential to delivering reliable public service.”
