Water Treatment Plant
The St. Lucie West Services District (SLWSD) Water Treatment Plant plays a vital role in providing safe, reliable drinking water to the residents and businesses of St. Lucie West. The plant draws groundwater from the Floridan Aquifer, one of Florida’s most productive underground water sources, and treats it to meet or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards. Every drop that comes out of your tap has gone through a carefully managed process designed to ensure purity, safety, and great taste.
At the heart of the facility is an advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment system, capable of producing up to 3.6 million gallons per day (MGD) of high-quality drinking water. The process uses high-pressure membranes to remove dissolved solids, minerals, and other impurities from raw groundwater drawn from deep Floridan Aquifer wells. Part of the treated RO water is then filtered through a calcite system to achieve an ideal mineral balance, proper pH, and improved taste.
After treatment, the water is stored in two 2.0-million-gallon ground storage tanks before being distributed throughout the community via a well-maintained network of underground pipes and high service pump system. The plant operates under a fully automated control system, allowing operators to continuously monitor and adjust treatment levels, flow rates, and water quality in real time. Routine laboratory testing confirms that all regulatory standards set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are met or exceeded.
The District’s certified operators and maintenance crews work year-round to ensure uninterrupted service, even during severe weather events like hurricanes and
tropical storms.
For residents, the Water Treatment Plant represents a cornerstone of community well-being. It supports everything from daily household needs to local business operations and public safety. Through continued investment in modern technology and proactive maintenance, the SLWSD remains committed to delivering the highest standards of quality, reliability, and environmental stewardship in its water supply.
