Understand Your Utility Bill
Your monthly utility bill funds the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the systems that provide drinking water, wastewater treatment, and reclaimed irrigation water throughout St. Lucie West.
Water & Sewer Service
The water and sewer base-rate charges and usage charges support the reliable delivery of drinking water, irrigation water, and wastewater services. These charges also fund the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the infrastructure that delivers these essential services throughout St. Lucie West and collects and treats wastewater before it is safely returned to the environment.
Base-Rate Charges
These are fixed monthly charges for potable (drinking) water, irrigation water, and sewer (wastewater) services. These charges apply even if no water is used during the billing period. They help ensure reliable and uninterrupted utility service to your property when you need it.
Usage Charges
These are charges based on the amount of water consumed during the billing period, as measured by the monthly water meter reading.
Irrigation Charges
Properties connected to the District’s reclaimed irrigation water system are billed monthly, when applicable. These charges help support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of the reclaimed water distribution system, which provides an environmentally responsible alternative to using potable water for landscape irrigation.
The reclaimed irrigation system uses highly treated reclaimed water produced at the District’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, supplemented by water stored in the District’s stormwater lakes throughout the community. This sustainable approach helps conserve drinking water supplies while making beneficial use of treated wastewater and captured rainfall.
Assessment Fees
St. Lucie West property owners also pay annual Non-ad Valorem Assessment Fees through their property tax bill. These assessment fees fund community stormwater infrastructure and maintenance for the stormwater systems, and are separate from monthly utility service charges.
SLWSD Stormwater Assessment
This is an ongoing assessment fee that helps fund the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the District’s stormwater management system.
SLWSD Benefit Assessment
This fee may be levied when needed to fund community infrastructure projects that provide a direct benefit to the District. Examples may include the construction of stormwater facilities, community enhancements, or other capital improvement projects. Depending on the District’s needs and approved projects, this assessment may be added, modified, or removed over time.
