SLWSD Completes Lake Harvey’s Rejuvenation Project

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – St. Lucie West Services District (SLWSD) completes Lake Harvey’s Rejuvenation Project, a multi-phase initiative aimed at enhancing both the ecological health and visual appeal of the 4.09-acre lake located between St. Lucie West Boulevard and Northwest Cashmere Boulevard. The project’s completion this month marks a significant milestone in the district’s efforts to create a community landmark and improve the surrounding environment.
In addition to the newly installed vibrant lights around the lake—programmed to illuminate palm trees daily from 6 to 11 p.m. and 4 to 6 a.m.—the project has brought about a series of ecological improvements. These include the installation of a fountain to oxygenate the water, reinforced shorelines to prevent erosion, and the implementation of natural filtration systems to reduce pollutants. These upgrades not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of Lake Harvey but also support stormwater management, erosion control, and environmental preservation, helping to mitigate flood risks in surrounding areas during heavy rainfall.
“Our goal is to create a centerpiece that supports wildlife while also serving as a stormwater storage system to mitigate flooding,” said Gerard Rouse, Public Works Director at SLWSD.
The newly installed lights will also change color to celebrate various holidays throughout the year, underscoring SLWSD’s commitment to sustainability and enriching the quality of life for residents of St. Lucie West.
The rejuvenation of Lake Harvey reflects SLWSD’s ongoing dedication to maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the 4,600-acre St. Lucie West community. Since its founding in 1990, SLWSD has provided essential utility services, including potable water, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and reclaimed water irrigation. The district remains committed to public health, safety, and environmental stewardship.
