What is the "Headworks?"
The headworks is the very first stage of a wastewater treatment plant. It is where raw sewage enters the plant and undergoes preliminary treatment to remove large debris and materials that could damage downstream equipment. The materials filtered here are disposed of in a landfill.
Why is the headworks important?
Without a headworks pumps would clog, pipes would become blocked, mechanical equipment would wear out much faster, treatment efficiency would decrease, and maintenance costs would increase significantly.
