What You Need to Know When There Are Boil Water Advisories

When a Boil Water Advisory is issued, your tap water may be unsafe to drink or use for cooking unless boiled. Please follow these steps:

How to Boil Water Safely:

  • Fill a clean pot with tap water.
  • Bring to a rolling boil (large bubbles) for at least 1 full minute.
  • Let the water cool naturally.
  • Store in clean, covered containers for later use.

Use Boiled or Bottled Water For:

  • Drinking and making ice.
  • Cooking and preparing food.
  • Brushing teeth.
  • Mixing baby formula.

You May Use Tap Water For:

  • Showering and bathing (avoid swallowing water).
  • Washing dishes only if you use hot, soapy water and rinse with boiled or bottled water
  • Laundry

The advisory will remain in place until tests confirm water is safe; SLWSD Will recind the advisory once this happens.
